A CBS News spokesperson said that the network has had “no discussions” with Gayle King about her contract amid a report that she is expected to depart CBS Mornings next year.

“There have been no discussions with Gayle about her contract that runs through May 2026,” a CBS News spokesperson said. “She’s a truly valued part of CBS and we look forward to engaging with her about her future.”

Variety, citing four sources familiar with the matter, reported that King was expected to leave the show, but that she may take a different role in the news division.

King has co-anchored CBS’ morning show since 2012, a mainstay even as different co-hosts have come and gone and the program has gone through format changes. She co-hosts the show with Tony Dokoupil and Nate Burleson.

She signed a new deal last year to stay at CBS News and, in a previous contract extension in 2022, announced her renewal on her SiriusXM show.

“The only thing I don’t like about this job are the hours,” she said. “But you can’t complain about the hours cause the job is what it is. And I’m so proud to be a part of the team, I’m so glad that the negotiations are over.” As she continued on the morning show, King co-hosted a weekly CNN show with Charles Barkley, called King Charles, but it ran for less than a year between 2023 and 2024.

CBS News is in the midst of an overhaul following Skydance’s acquisition of Paramount, with Bari Weiss hired earlier this month with the title of editor in chief. Big changes are expected for CBS Evening News, with co-anchor John Dickerson announcing that he would be departing the network at the end of the year.

The network this week went through a round of layoffs that impacted nearly 100 staffers.
