A Southern California teacher was arrested for the alleged sexual abuse of multiple children.
The teacher was identified as Steve Paul Perry Popper, 47, of Colton, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.
On Oct. 8, detectives received a tip that someone from the area of Colton had downloaded child sexual abuse material. The suspect involved was later identified as Popper, authorities said.
Popper is a teacher at Bemis Elementary School in Rialto.
During the investigation, detectives also discovered evidence that Popper had allegedly committed child sexual abuse against four young victims.
On Oct. 29, Popper was arrested for lewd and lascivious acts with a child under 14 with force/duress, lewd and lascivious acts with a child under 14, and possession of child pornography. He is being held on $500,000 bail.
Investigators did not reveal whether the victims were also students at the Rilato school. Detectives believe there may be additional victims who have yet to come forward.
