Some community members in West Hollywood are on edge after a recent uptick in coyote sightings.

According to the WeHo Times, at least one coyote has been seen multiple times along Harper Avenue. One of the sightings took place Friday as a man was walking his dogs, while the second happened the following morning.

A man who spoke to the WeHo Times on the condition of anonymity said he encountered two coyotes while walking his two small dogs down Harper this past Friday evening. He called the situation “very scary” while adding that the wild canines seem “hungry and desperate.”

“When these coyotes saw them, they chased after us. I had to hide in my garage,” the anonymous man told the outlet. “They circled for a bit and then walked away. I just wanted to spread the word that these coyotes seem hungry and desperate, so everyone should be on the lookout.”

The man also added that he’s “never” seen coyotes act that bold after living on Harper for years.

Per a post to the Nextdoor app on Saturday morning, a coyote was seen walking down Harper towards Santa Monica Boulevard, the WeHo Times reported. Another sighting, according to the outlet, was reported the same night in the 1200 block of Ogden Avenue.

There have been no reports of any injuries to humans or animals from the coyotes, but those living in the area are advised to remain on the lookout for them.

The City of West Hollywood has a Coyote Management and Coexistence Plan for local residents that provides tips on human-coyote interactions. Click here to view it.
