An infant was found dead Monday night near the University of Southern California campus, authorities confirmed to KTLA on Tuesday.
LAPD officers responded to the 3100 block of McClintock Avenue after reports of a deceased infant. The child was pronounced dead at the scene and the cause of death remains undetermined pending the Medical Examiner’s findings, according to police. No arrests have been made.
Earlier that evening, around 5:56 p.m., Los Angeles Fire Department crews responded to the same location for a 20-year-old woman having difficulty breathing. She was transported to a local hospital, officials said.
At 7:13 p.m., firefighters returned for reports of an infant not breathing and arrived to find the baby deceased. Authorities have not said whether the two medical calls at the location are directly related.
Annenberg Media reported the child was 19 hours old and found inside USC’s Cardinal Gardens apartments, citing LAPD. The outlet also reported a Citizen app entry noting a child left alone in an apartment around 6:50 p.m.
The investigation remains ongoing and no further details were immediately released.
