EXCLUSIVE: Only Murders in the Building is going international. After Charles (Steve Martin), Oliver (Martin Short) and Mabel (Selena Gomez) ventured across North America to California in Season 4, the New York trio would be taking their crime-solving skills to a whole new continent, I hear.
The Hulu‘s hit murder mystery comedy, whose Season 5 comes to a conclusion tomorrow, Oct. 28, has not been formally renewed for a sixth season yet. When it is — something fully expected, given the show’s ongoing popularity — it would come with a new, non-U.S. main location for the first time, sources said.
Only Murders In the Building appears Europe-bound, with its Season 6 location believed to be London. The likely transatlantic move may be hinted in the Season 5 finale, which debuts Tuesday on Hulu.
Amateur sleuths and podcasters Charles, Oliver and Mabel would feel right at home in a historic European building since their beloved Arconia has that feel with its Italian Renaissance Revival style. It is unclear whether the actual murder at the center of next season would take place on the other side of the Atlantic; all previous victims found their deaths at The Arconia.
A London Season 6 location would mean that the next installments of the two most popular current murder mystery series, Only Murders and The White Lotus, would be only a train ride away. As Deadline reported exclusively, Mike White’s HBO show is headed to France for Season 4.
The current fifth season of Only Murders In the Building focuses on the murder of The Arconia’s beloved doorman Lester. The investigation so far has stumbled into an illegal casino and mafia ties — with Bobby Cannavale and Téa Leoni playing characters in that storyline — along with three powerful billionaires portrayed by Renée Zellweger, Christoph Waltz and Logan Lerman. Other high-profile new Season 5 cast members include Keegan Michael Key, Jermaine Fowler, Beanie Feldstein and Dianne Wiest.
Aside from the main trio of Martin, Short and Gomez, Michael Cyril Creighton is back as Howard, along with Jackie Hoffman (Uma), Da’Vine Joy Randolph (Detective Donna Williams), Meryl Streep (Loretta), Richard Kind (Vince Fish) and Nathan Lane (Teddy Dimas).
Only Murders in the Building was co-created by Martin & showrunner John Hoffman who executive produce with Short, Gomez, Dan Fogelman, Jess Rosenthal, Ben Smith and JJ Philbin. 20th Television is the studio.
