EXCLUSIVE: Aidan Laprete (The Pitt, Drivers Ed), Kelley Pereira (The Runarounds), and Nelson Franklin (Veep) have joined the cast of The Social Network’s follow-up feature, The Social Reckoning, from Sony Pictures and filmmaker Aaron Sorkin, sources close to production tell Deadline. Sorkin returns with an original screenplay and will take on directing duties.
They join the previously announced lead cast of Mikey Madison, Jeremy Allen White, Jeremy Strong, and Bill Burr. Wunmi Mosaku, Billy Magnussen, Betty Gilpin, Gbenga Akinnagbe, and Anna Lambe also star.
A companion piece to The Social Network—the Oscar-winning film that told Facebook’s origin story— The Social Reckoning tells the true story of how Frances Haugen (Madison), a young Facebook engineer, enlists the help of Jeff Horwitz (White), a Wall Street Journal reporter, to go on a dangerous journey that ends up blowing the whistle on the social network’s most guarded secrets.
Franklin, Laprete, and Pereira’s roles are under wraps.
Todd Black, Peter Rice, Sorkin and Stuart Besser are producing the feature set for release on October 9.
Released in 2010 by Sony Pictures, The Social Network earned $226 million globally. Nominated for eight Academy Awards, including Best Picture, the film won three, including Sorkin winning Best Adapted Screenplay.
Pereira most recently was a series regular in the Prime Video series, The Runarounds. She is repped by Luber Roklin, Houghton Talent, and Yorn, Levine, Barnes.
Laprete is best known for starring in Prime Video’s The Wilds, as well as recurring roles in HBO Max’s hit medical drama The Pitt and Peacock’s The Paper. He can be most recently seen in the features Swiped, which premiered at TIFF, This Too Shall Pass, and Bobby Farrelly’s Driver’s Ed. He is repped by CESD and Untitled.
Franklin is best recognized for his TV roles in The Millers for CBS, Traffic Light for Fox, NBC’s The Office, Fox’s New Girl, ABC’s Black-ish, Showtime’s Yellowjackets, and HBO’s Veep. Franklin will next be seen in the independent feature Wake. He is repped by CAA, Artists First, and Hansen, Jacobson, Teller.
