PHOENIX — From demolition crews that took down Milum Textile Factory in Phoenix to former U.S. Sen. Kyrsten Sinema issuing a warning the city of Chandler to support AI-focused data centers, here are some of the top Arizona news stories from Oct. 24-26.

Demolition crews swiftly move in at Milum Textile building site in Phoenix

Just weeks after a downtown Phoenix building finally sold after years of fighting over its historic preservation status, crews are already at the site and ready to start demolition, paving the way for a possible mixed-use redevelopment.

Chicago-based investor JRG Capital Partners bought the property, which sits on 1.76 acres and includes multiple buildings, for $8.5 million on Sept. 17 from longtime owner Craig Milum.

Former Sen. Sinema warns Chandler to embrace AI data centers or face federal intervention

Former U.S. Sen. Kyrsten Sinema warned the city of Chandler in a meeting last week that failure to support the development of local AI-focused data centers will result in a loss of control for the city. The federal government, she said, will eventually step in.

Her comments came in the final portion of a long discussion Oct. 15 about a proposed data center and office campus project planned for the South Price Road Corridor in Chandler. The potential developer has argued against city staff’s concerns that the project does not fit the area’s land-use vision.

Sinema, president and CEO of the Arizona Business Roundtable, encouraged the planning and zoning commission to push the proposal forward and to embrace the emerging technology needs of the coming “AI revolution.”

Phoenix police ask for public’s help locating, identifying robbery assault suspects

Robbery detectives with the Phoenix Police Department are asking for the public’s help locating and identifying suspects in a robbery assault case.

On Oct. 15, a man’s vehicle became disabled in the area of Mohave and Seventh streets around 12:20 a.m., according to Phoenix PD.

Police said the man was walking to a nearby convenience store when he was approached by a man and a woman.

The man of the duo reportedly struck the male victim multiple times in the face while the woman took the victim’s phone and wallet.
