LAUDERDALE COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) — Lauderdale County Schools continue to put safety first, as a new visitor pass system has been added to their security measures.
One scan that goes a long way, a new visitor system is now in place for Lauderdale County Schools.

“It’s got the sex offender check, which is what everybody does when they come in, and then if someone is going to stay in the building, you can put a badge on them so it will track their movement in the building,” Beavers said.
This is how it works: a parent or visitor gives their ID to the front office, the ID is scanned, which runs a background check, and once cleared, they get a visitor pass badge on a lanyard, and the lanyard tracks their movement through the school.
“The biggest thing is just knowing where everybody is on your campus,” Beavers said.
And if a visitor has been at the school for longer than 30 minutes, administrators are notified.
“It has a time limit on it, so if they have been in a teacher’s room for longer than 30 minutes, then an administrator might go check and see what’s going on,” Beavers said.
But the system does more than just track visitors.
“The database also has the parents who can pick up the kid and who can’t pick up the kid, so you go through that layer of security as well,” Beavers said.
Beavers says they will continue adding new security as it comes to Lauderdale County Schools.
“They’re our kids and we got to take of them and really safety now is about as important as test scores,” Beavers said.
All 17 schools within the Lauderdale County School system have this new visitor system. If you are planning to visit your child or relative, you must have a valid driver’s license upon arrival.
