When it comes to style, Emma Stone always exceeds our greatest expectations.
This time, however, she took that mandate literally.
The actress, 36, stepped out in New York City last night wearing a striking vintage Donna Karan design for an appearance on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.” She was in the studio to promote her new movie, “Bugonia,” an absurdist dark comedy directed by her frequent collaborator Yorgos Lanthimos.
Curiously, Stone’s look harkened back to one of the most highly anticipated films of the 1990s: “Great Expectations.” The classic Charles Dickens novel was adapted for the screen and starred Gwyneth Paltrow opposite Ethan Hawke as the ultimate cold-hearted NYC beauty.
Paltrow’s character wore green throughout the film, much of it from Donna Karan’s spring 1996 collection, including the silky maxi skirt and top made iconic by her character, Estella.
Notably, Stone styled the look nearly identically to how it was viewed in the film. She wore the blouse fastened in the center with one clasp, showing off her toned midriff.
Instead of block heels, Stone opted for black leather Manolo Blahnik Susa kitten heels with a crossover design. She parted her bobbed red hair in the center, just like Paltrow’s cool ’90s blond.
Stone did, however, forgo the oversized embossed croc-print handbag, opting to keep her hands free to wave to onlookers.
The Academy Award winner is a beloved style chameleon and doesn’t shy away from making a colorful fashion statement. Earlier this month, at the London Film Festival premiere of “Bugonia,” Stone wowed in a Louis Vuitton gown in marigold customized by designer Nicolas Ghesquière. Working with longtime stylist Petra Flannery, the actress was the picture of Old Hollywood glamour.
Yesterday evening, after her “Late Show” appearance, Stone changed into another Louis Vuitton design for the New York premiere of “Bugonia” at the Museum of Modern Art.
Plucked straight from the spring 2026 runway, the semi-sheer gray knit dress was unlined; photographers’ flashes revealed Stone’s playful high-waisted light blue briefs underneath. She carried a coordinating gray Louis Vuitton box bag with silver hardware.
As a longtime Louis Vuitton ambassador, we can count on Stone to show up in style. But, adding this archival Donna Karan design into the mix? That shows she has taste, too.
“Bugonia” hits movie theaters on Oct. 31.
