PHOENIX — The Arizona State Transportation Board has approved $3 million to repair flood-damaged sections of US 60 between Superior and the Globe-Miami area, authorities announced Thursday.
Repairs are necessary to rebuild embankments that washed away in the floods, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT).
The project will also repair damaged sections of the roadway.
Work began Monday under a contract allowing for the urgently needed repairs, ADOT said.
The goal of this project is to restore two lanes of travel on US 60 as swiftly as possible, but in the interim, motorists should expect delays.

ADOT urged drivers to use caution when driving near milepost 241 for the next three to four weeks as the project is underway.
As crews work on repairs, the highway west of Miami will be restricted to one direction. ADOT expects it to cause delays of 15 minutes during normal times, as well as longer delays at peak travel times.
However, this flood damage repair project won’t be the only cause of traffic complications in the area.
Bridge replacement project near Globe another cause of traffic snags
Drivers traveling between the Phoenix and Globe areas should also account for previously scheduled closures of US 60 between Superior and Globe due to a bridge replacement project.
The closures related to that project are scheduled from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesdays through Thursdays.
Drivers navigating those closures can detour on state routes 177 and 77 through Winkelman, although that route will add 75 miles to trips, according to ADOT.
