A family-owned liquor store in Los Angeles County might just be the luckiest place in California.
Village Spirit Shoppe, located at 4601 Lakeview Canyon Road in Westlake Village, recently sold a Super Lotto Plus ticket worth $50 million, minting the store’s third lottery millionaire in the past eight years, California Lottery officials announced on Tuesday.
In 2017, a lottery player walked away with a $3 million prize from a Set for Life scratchers ticket sold at the store, which is owned by the Shon family. Then in March 2021, the store sold an Ultimate Millions scratchers ticket worth $10 million.
“My family has owned the shop for 30 years; my mom is the owner,” Mimi Shon told the California Lottery, posing with her mother and a fake check for the $50 million prize.
For their good fortune, the family will receive a $250,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket. Mimi says she plans to take a nice vacation.
The owner of the winning ticket has not been identified.
Proceeds from lottery ticket sales benefit public education in the Golden State. Since its launch in 1985, the California Lottery has raised more than $48 billion for schools, officials said.
