A high school freshman was shot and killed by a stray bullet while playing video games inside his Missouri home, according to reports and authorities.

D’Uwan Morgan, 14, was struck by a stray bullet around 6:10 p.m. inside his home on Hobkirk Drive in St. Louis after teenagers in the immediate area started a gunfight on Oct. 8, WCNC reported.

He died of his injuries on the scene, according to a news release by the St. Louis Police Department.

The teen was in the comfort of his own bedroom playing video games when the two shots blasted through a windowpane while his mother and two brothers were also home, the outlet reported.

“He was minding his business, doing nothing,” one family member told the publication. “Just sitting in his room. And now he’s gone.”

Neighbors told the outlet that they witnessed several teens, some wearing masks, hopping fences and disappearing between houses when the shots rang out.

Morgan, who graduated eighth grade just five months ago, loved the outdoors and fishing, his family recalled.

“He was a beautiful, nice kid,” his aunt, Erica Davis, told the publication.

“He had a bright future ahead of him.”

His heartbroken mother has been struggling to put her life back together after her son’s shocking death, she added.

“She hasn’t been eating. She hasn’t been sleeping. She’s completely broken,” Davis said of Morgan’s mother. “This is a horrible nightmare.”

No arrests have been made yet in the shooting, and the investigation is still ongoing, police confirmed to several outlets.

Morgan’s family has been troubled by the lack of answers from authorities as the investigation progresses.

“My family will never be the same,” Davis said. “We want justice for my nephew. He didn’t deserve to lose his life like this.”
