Since at least 1998, Keri Russell has been known to give a breathtaking hair performance, and she continues to put her best ‘do forward.
The Golden Globe winner teased a “really fun little moment” for her hair in Season 3 of The Diplomat, now available to stream on Netflix, defending her titular character Kate Wyler’s “no-nonsense” style choices on the show.
“First of all, I think she looks great,” she told Entertainment Tonight. “I don’t get when people are like, ‘She’s a mess.’ I’m like, ‘I think she looks amazing.’ I love the way she dresses, I think she’s kinda no-nonsense, she just wants to do her job. And I love her hair, it’s supposed to be just natural and not overly thought about, not overly done.”
Russell added, “People comment on it, and this season, we have a really fun little moment with it. I love the way that character looks.”
Since the Debora Cahn-created series debuted on Netflix in 2023, Kate’s unkempt hair has served as a visual representation of her struggle with the pomp and circumstance of her U.K. post, while she has worked to get to the bottom of a terror attack with global implications.
Hairstyles aside, when it comes to The Diplomat‘s writing, Russell previously told Deadline it’s the messiness that she loves in Cahn’s work.
“What’s so great [about what] Deborah writes is the constant fucking up or messing something up or being wrong and having to clean it up or having to own up to it or having to show up and make it better. That’s life…That’s where growth happens,” Russell said. “Those are the important things when you look back. I just like embarrassing situations. I’m embarrassed all day long. So I get pleasure in watching someone do something stupid.”
