I feel like falling in love. I’m in the mood to bake something up!
It’s cuffing season, that time of year when the weather turns cold and the search is on for someone to spend all your inside time with. While I’m not here to tell you how to spend your cold months, I am here to tell you that the best way to stay cozy this winter is with a warm treat fresh from the oven.
In my heart of hearts, I’m outdoorsy, but in practice I’m Shelley Long in “Troop Beverly Hills”: More in it for the outfits. This is why I love baking in a cast-iron skillet — I can enjoy camping vibes without worrying about bugs or being cold.
What’s not to love about a skillet dessert? They are straightforward, usually need minimal ingredients, and by the time I’m done cleaning up, dessert is ready. I can eat my treat with a spoon straight from the pan — just how I imagine I would if I ever went camping. And it’s the perfect portion size for two to four people, making it fabulous for date night or, even better, a dinner-and-a-movie night with the girls.
If you’re in the mood for all things warm, gooey and straight from the oven, here are my favorites, organized by how ambitious I’m feeling.
