A suspect was arrested after a man was shot to death in Long Beach.
The suspect was identified as Jose Garcia-Linares, 25, according to the Long Beach Police Department.
On Oct. 12, police responded to a shooting on the 200 block of Falcon Avenue shortly before 1:30 a.m.
Officers found the victim, Thomas Mello, 36, of Long Beach, with a gunshot wound to the upper body. He was taken to a local hospital where he died from his injuries.
The shooter had fled the scene before police arrived. Following an investigation, detectives identified Garcia-Linares as the suspected gunman. Police noted he was homeless at the time.
That same day, he was located near the 700 block of Orange Avenue where he was taken into custody.
Further details, including a motive or whether the suspect and victim knew each other, were not released. Detectives have presented the case to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for filing consideration.
