EXCLUSIVE: Sky is close to agreeing a deal to adapt Scottish comedian Frankie Boyle‘s debut novel into a TV series.

Although nothing is yet confirmed, the Comcast-owned broadcaster is planning to reimagine Meantime, which was described by The Guardian newspaper as “Withnail and I meets James Bond.”

The project is housed at Expectation, the BBC Studios-backed production company behind Amazon Prime Video’s Clarkson’s Farm and BAFTA-winning BBC comedy Alma’s Not Normal.

Meantime is set in Boyle’s home city of Glasgow and follows Valium addict Felix McAveety, who goes in search of answers when his best friend Marina is found murdered in the local park.

Teaming with a colorful cast of characters, their investigation sends them on an expedition that takes in Scottish politics, AI, cults, secret agents, smugglers, and vegan record shops.

Meantime was published by Hachette UK’s John Murray Press in 2022. Boyle’s next book, A Short History Of The Apocalypse, is out next month.

Boyle is one of the UK’s best-known comedians. He has brought his brand of acerbic wit to TV series, including Mock the Week and Frankie Boyle’s New World Order.

Sky declined to comment.
