NORTH ALABAMA (WHNT) — Baseball is bringing together players of all abilities in a big way. Several North Alabama schools are teaming up for a special needs baseball tournament.
Its a celebration of teamwork, sportsmanship, and inclusion. Tournaments are already underway, with one happening tomorrow, but the big one will be later this month on October 28.
These games are about inclusion and bringing the special needs community in the many districts in North Alabama together. Adaptive P.E. Coach Josiah John says he is able to travel to different school systems and visit with different students and make an impact in their lives.
The big tournament happening later this month will bring together 4 different school districts and last year, the tournament brought out over 180 students. Since this program is still gaining traction, John says he welcomes donations to help pay for transportation to get the students from schools to the baseball fields.
He also encourages parents of special needs students at schools that are not already involved, to contact Sparkman High School’s special education program and join in on the fun. Coach John tells News 19 he is grateful for those in the community who have already donated and helped make these games so successful.
If you would love to donate, he requests that you call the school directly that your child goes to and they will guide you in the right direction.
If you have a student that would like to take part in these games, you can contact Coach John at [email protected].
