Britney Spears is speaking out against claims made by her ex-husband, Kevin Federline, about her parenting in his new memoir.
“The constant gaslighting from (my) ex-husband is extremely hurtful and exhausting. I have always pleaded and screamed to have a life with my boys. Relationships with teenage boys is complex. I have felt demoralized by this situation and have always asked and almost begged for them to be a part of my life,” she said in a statement posted to social media.
“Sadly, they have always witnessed the lack of respect shown by (their) own father for me. They need to take responsibility for themselves. With one son only seeing me for 45 min in the past 5 years and the other with only 4 visits in the past 5 years. I have pride too,” she continued. “From now on, I will let them know when I am available. Trust me, those white lies in that book, they are going straight to the bank and I am the only one who genuinely gets hurt here.”
Spears said she “will always love them,” and if you really knew her, “you won’t pay attention to the tabloids” regarding her “mental health and drinking.”
“I am actually a pretty intelligent woman who has been trying to live a sacred and private life the past 5 years,” she claimed. “I speak on this because I have had enough and any real woman would do the same.”
In the book titled “You Thought You Knew,” Federline alleged that when their sons, Sean Preston and Jayden James, were younger, they did not feel safe in her house. He
He wrote that they would awaken sometimes at night to find Spears standing silently in the doorway of their bedroom with a knife in her hand.
“Oh, you’re awake?” he claimed she said, and then would “turn around and pad off without explanation.”
The former dancer claimed their son Preston told him Spears once punched him in the face and she gave son Jayden shellfish knowing he was allergic.
Federline made other claims like Spears burning their kids’ scalps after bleaching their hair, waking up Jayden on a school night to put lotion on his face and verbally berating them. He also said, when Jayden was around 10 or 11, he would ask his dad why his mom forced him to bathe with her.
K-Fed also claimed Spears once told Preston, “she wished he, his brother, and me were all dead,” after he confronted her for calling him during a European vacation with his girlfriend’s family. Federline said Spears called Preston on the trip and blamed “Federline for everything.”
The Fresno native also said the “Toxic” singer’s mental health is racing toward something irreparable and urges all people who put effort into the Free Britney Movement should put that energy into saving her.
Earlier, a representative for Spears dismissed the claims, saying that Federline is once again trying to profit off her and that his memoir comes as his child support has ended.
Federline and Spears married in 2004 and divorced in 2006. In addition to his two sons with Spears, Federline has four other children. Two are with ex-girlfriend, actress Shar Jackson, and the two are with current wife, former volleyball player Victoria Prince.
Federline and Prince have been married since 2013.
Federline’s memoir will be released on Oct. 21.
