EXCLUSIVE: A trio of Canal+ history docs have notched wide international sales. Series on Alexander the Great, the Egyptian ruler, Ramses, and the Vikings have all found new international homes during MIPCOM. Each of the shows was made for Canal+ by Pernel Media, with Cineflix Rights across sales and cutting the deals.
Alexander the Great: Legendary Conqueror, about one of history’s greatest military leaders has been snagged by buyers including RTL in Germany, SBS in Australia and Viasat for CEE and Scandinavia. Deals had already closed with Mediaset for Italy and Movistar for Spain.
Vikings: The Empire of the North Sea chronicles the rise and fall of history’s first-and-only Viking empire. It has been acquired by Disney for Benelux and YLE in Finland among others.
Moving to Egypt, Ramses The Great: King of Ancient Egypt, which uses science and recent discoveries to reveal more about the titular ruler, has sold to Discovery for Iberia, ZDF in Germany and DRTV in Denmark. It has already sold widely before the MIPCOM deals were announced, including to pubcasters CBC in Canada and Czech TV.
