A truck was seen hanging off the side of a freeway connector in Pacoima on Tuesday morning as heavy rain and wind swept across Southern California, officials said.
According to the California Highway Patrol, officers received a call at 11:11 a.m. reporting a semi-truck partially hanging off the transition road from the northbound 5 Freeway to the westbound 118 Freeway.
Sky5 video captured the dramatic scene, showing the truck’s cab dangling over the edge of the elevated connector while the rear trailer remained on the roadway.
Firefighters called in a heavy rescue team to help lift the semi back onto the roadway, and crews remained on scene for nearly three hours before clearing around 2 p.m., officials said. No injuries were reported.
CHP logs showed multiple units holding eastbound 118 traffic directly beneath the overpass due to concerns that the load could fall.
The agency issued a SigAlert at 12:55 p.m., closing the entire transition road for an extended period, and it remained in effect into the afternoon. Drivers were urged to avoid the area and seek alternate routes.
From overhead, KTLA’s Rich Prickett reported that the incident occurred “during the height of the storm as it made its way through the Pacoima area,” describing the scene as “a very close call for this big-rig driver.”
