Seven teens were found in a car that was connected to both a missing persons case in Las Vegas and an armed robbery that occurred Monday in Ventura, police say, and four of them were arrested.
The Ventura Police Department issued a news release on Tuesday morning stating that officers were dispatched to Clark’s Liquor, located at 1703 North Ventura Avenue, around 12:40 p.m. regarding an armed robbery.
“Three male juveniles entered the store and stole several bottles of alcohol,” VPD said in the news release. “As the suspects exited, an employee attempted to stop them [when] one suspect brandished a handgun and pointed it at the employee, who retreated back into the store.”
The suspects fled the area in a vehicle, which was later found to be associated with a missing persons case out of Las Vegas. That vehicle was found several times throughout the day; however, the teens were able to escape capture multiple times.
Shortly after the robbery, a Ventura Police Department officer located the vehicle and began pursuing it but called the pursuit off when the vehicle began driving recklessly at high speeds.
The vehicle was later observed traveling south on the 101 Freeway, and this time, deputies with the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office tried to stop it, police said. The suspects continued fleeing though, and deputies eventually lost sight of the vehicle near Las Posas Road.
Later on Monday evening, the car was spotted for a third time in Camarillo. This time around, a traffic stop was successfully conducted which led to seven teens being detained, according to Ventura police.
“Three of the male juveniles were identified as suspects involved in the robbery, including the individual who brandished the firearm,” VPD stated.
Law enforcement searched the vehicle and found both the weapon – a BB gun matching the description of the one used in the robbery – and stolen merchandise.
The three teens involved in the robbery are two 14-year-olds and a 16-year-old, police say. Another 16-year-old who was driving the car was also arrested; all four were charged with robbery, conspiracy and felony evading.
None of the teens were identified by name, but they were listed as residents of Nevada. They were all booked at the Ventura Juvenile Hall.
