MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. (WHNT) — On this week’s Growing the Valley, News 19 stopped by Rick’s Farmer’s Market in Muscle Shoals.
Rick’s has been around for 18 years and is a major staple in the Shoals for holiday decor and fresh veggies and fruits.
News 19 caught up with Rick Lindsey, co-owner of Ricks’s Farmer’s Market, and Lindsey says, this year, they have a large variety of different types of pumpkins, and that it was a pretty successful cropping season.
Lindsey says there are some species of pumpkins that grow better in Alabama, specifically.
“A lot of the smaller varieties, the Casillos, the baby boo’s, the black cat, a lot of these are a lot easier to grow, here in our hotter climates down here,” Lindsey said.
And some of the pumpkins at the market are grown in places that tend to have colder temperatures.
“A lot of your bigger varieties, your stackers and stuff, they do a lot better in colder climates, especially for the colors to come out in them, the sun will bleach them out, and will take so long to grow them in our hot summers,” Lindsey said.
Rick’s is located at 3406 S Wilson Dam Rd in Muscle Shoals, and they are open Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sundays from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m..
