PHOENIX — Seven Arizona breweries won medals at the Great American Beer Festival’s awards in Denver on Saturday.
The largest ticketed beer festival in the United States honored five Arizona breweries with bronze medals and two with silver medals.
Overall, a total of 8,315 beers and ciders coming from all 50 states were entered into the competition, which spanned seven days and three judging phases.
On the final day of the competition, 273 breweries were awarded with 347 medals at this year’s event.
This year was the 39th iteration of the festival. The first Great American Beer Festival was held in Boulder in 1982 at the Harvest House Hotel. The festival moved to Denver in 1984.
“There were extremely strong showings from numerous breweries and cidermakers across the U.S., maximizing the level of competition among the entire competition community,” Chris Williams, the competition director for the Brewers Association, said in a press release.
