EXCLUSIVE: Channel 4 has ordered what is certain to be a controversial documentary that analyzes a sample of Adolf Hitler’s DNA. Blink Films is making Hitler’s DNA: Blueprint of a Dictator.

Blink has a sample of the dictator’s DNA, which it said has been verified through scientific testing. The UK-based producer said its doc will examine whether Hitler’s genes played any part influencing his psychology or behavior. Production is underway. A premiere date has not been set, but we hear it is likely to bow this year.

In the factual two-parter, world-leading geneticist Dr. Turi King and renowned historian Dr Alex Kay work with an international assortment of health professionals, behavior experts and other scientists to decode and analyze Hitler’s genetic makeup.

The project was commissioned for Channel 4 by Jonah Weston and Emily Shields. “Nothing can ever fully explain Adolf Hitler’s evil,” said Weston. “But finding Hitler’s DNA is an incredible feat of scientific detective work – and gives unprecedented insights into history’s most studied man.”

Dan Chambers, Creative Director, Blink Films added: “For 80 years, there has been lots of speculation about Hitler’s medical and psychiatric conditions. Now, by looking into his DNA for the first time in history, we’re able to reveal a whole series of things – some that we might have expected, others that are really surprising.”

ITV Studios is distributing and the series is on its MIPCOM slate. We hear it is already generating buyer interest with deals expected soon. Internationally, it is being sold as a two-parter and a single 90-minute doc.

The doc is directed by James Routh, produced by Zoé Wiggins, and the executive producers are Dan Chambers and Nina Davies.
