Oscar nominee Paul Greengrass has retitled his peasant revolt pic formerly known as The Rage to The Uprising, adding five to the cast: Jamie Bell (Half-Man), Cosmo Jarvis (Warfare), Thomasin McKenzie (Jojo Rabbit), Jonny Lee Miller (Elementary) and Woody Norman (C’mon C’mon).

Character details are under wraps, with production underway. As previously announced, Andrew Garfield stars as the legendary leader of a ferocious rebellion against the tyranny of King Richard II. As war burns across England, he forms an army of the people to face the King’s might in a fight for justice and survival.

Katherine Waterston was also previously announced as joining the cast.

Jason Blum is producing through Blumhouse, alongside Gregory Goodman, Joanna Kaye and Greengrass, as well as Lars Sylvest through Thank You Pictures and Joe Neurauter through Supernix. Focus Features is set to distribute the film domestically, after acquiring it out of the Cannes market in a deal said to be in the $11M range, as we first reported.

Greengrass gets underway on The Uprising following the debut of his California fire drama The Lost Bus, which premiered at the Toronto Film Festival and hit limited theaters in September before arriving on Apple TV+ (now Apple TV) on October 3. The film, starring Matthew McConaughey and America Ferrera, is among this year’s slate of awards prospects.

Coming off its own October 3 release, Anemone — the drama from Ronan Day-Lewis that brought his Oscar-winning father, Daniel Day-Lewis, out of retirement — Focus is next set to distribute the Yorgos Lanthimos–Emma Stone reteam Bugonia worldwide outside of South Korea on October 24. The company’s other films on the docket this fall, as either domestic or international distributor, include Hamnet and Lurker on November 27, The History of Sound on December 18, and Song Sung Blue on Christmas Day.

Bell is repped by 3 Arts, CAA, and Sloane, Offer, Weber & Dern; Jarvis by The Artists Partnership, UTA, Yorn, Levine & Barnes and Telescope Agency; McKenzie by UTA, Untitled Entertainment, Gail Cowan Management, and Johnson Shapiro Slewett & Kole; Miller by 42, UTA, and Jackoway Austen Tyerman; and Norman by Paradigm, Sylvia Young Agency, and HJTH.
