Los Angeles | $1.349 million

A 1925 bungalow, on 0.2 acres

This two-bedroom, two-bathroom house, where flowers are painted onto the blue shutters, is in Echo Park, less than two miles from both Echo Park Lake and Dodger Stadium. A cafe and bakery is a few blocks away. A Detroit-style pizzeria, a small used bookstore and a mix of coffee shops and cocktail bars line a nearby stretch of Sunset Boulevard.

Silver Lake is a 10-minute drive, and Union Station and the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, both in downtown Los Angeles, are 15 minutes away.

Size: 1,421 square feet

Price per square foot: $949

Indoors: Paved steps lead from the driveway up to the front door, which opens to a foyer with hardwood floors that continue into the living room. Here, a wood-burning fireplace has an original tile hearth, casement windows face the patio and a walk-in closet is set up as an office space.

Steps lead up into the kitchen, which has a vintage white range and a farmhouse-style sink. A sunny dining room is on the other side of the kitchen, with access to the patio and a hallway that leads to the primary suite.

In the primary bedroom, which fits a king-size bed and a sitting area, French doors open to a walled section of the patio. In the updated bathroom, the walk-in shower is lined in white tile.

A second bedroom is off the dining room, with mint-green walls and backyard-facing windows, and a full bathroom is next door. A ladder leads up to the attic, which has been converted into a cozy reading nook with colorful wallpaper.

Outdoor space: The wraparound-style patio has space for separate dining and sitting areas, and a path leads from here up to a restored 1950s trailer with a kitchenette and a bathroom, plus its own wood deck. A garage with one parking spot is at the front of the house.

Taxes: $16,860 (estimated)

Santa Rosa | $1.4 million

A midcentury modern house built in 1965, on 0.9 acres

This three-bedroom, two-and-a-half-bathroom house was designed as a personal residence by the architect Tom Tomasi, whose other work in Santa Rosa included an elementary school and the music building at Santa Rosa Junior College. Santa Rosa Plaza is a 15-minute drive, and the Charles M. Schulz Museum and Research Center, devoted to the work of the Peanuts creator, is 20 minutes away.

Sonoma is 30 minutes away, Bodega Bay is 45 minutes away, and San Francisco is less than 90 minutes away.

Size: 2,601 square feet

Price per square foot: $538

Indoors: A red brick path lined with mature trees leads from the driveway to the front door, which is flanked by floor-to-ceiling stained-glass windows.

Inside is the living room, where wood beams run across the ceiling and out to the patio. A fireplace is framed by a wall of stone and beyond is a formal dining room, which has wood-paneling and a crystal chandelier. The kitchen, through the dining room, has a skylight and more windows above the sink, with a breakfast nook around the corner. A door on one side of the kitchen opens to the deck, and a powder room off this part of the house has yellow walls.

The primary bedroom is at the end of a hallway extending from the living room, with windows along two walls overlooking the grounds. The floors here and in the walk-in closet are carpeted, and the en suite bathroom has a walk-in shower lined with blue tile.

At the other end of the hall are two guest bedrooms, along with another full bathroom and an open space that could be used as a home office.

Outdoor space: A wood deck, partially covered by a pergola, faces the backyard and Santa Rosa Creek beyond it. On one side of the house is a fenced-in garden area. There’s parking for two cars in a detached garage, with room for several more cars beneath a carport.

Taxes: $17,496 (estimated)

San Diego | $1.399 million

A Craftsman house built in 1920, on 0.1 acres

This three-bedroom, two-bathroom house is about five blocks from Balboa Park, and within walking distance of the park’s Morley Field Sports Complex, which includes a disc golf course, a baseball field, an archery range, a playground and an off-leash dog area. Also within walking distance are a brewery, a 1930s theater and performing arts space and a combined cocktail bar and arcade.

Downtown San Diego is 15 minutes away, and the city’s airport is 20 minutes away.

Size: 1,575 square feet

Price per square foot: $888

Indoors: From the sidewalk, a paved path leads up to a covered porch with a view of the street. A door opens from here into the living room, where the hardwood floors are original, as are built-in cabinets that sit on either side of a wide doorway facing the dining room.

At one end of the dining room is an original built-in cabinet, with a pass-through window that looks into the updated kitchen. Here, the countertops are Caesarstone and the cabinets are maple. Stainless steel appliances include a gas range.

The primary bedroom, with space for a king-size bed, is off the dining room and has a door opening to a private deck. A walk-in closet is off one side of the bedroom, and off another is a bathroom with a double vanity and heated tile floors.

Another bedroom, off the living room, faces the street, and next door is a full bathroom with penny tile floors and a pedestal sink. A bedroom on the other side of the bathroom fits a queen-size bed.

Outdoor space: Off the dining room and kitchen is the main deck, with a built-in grill on one side and a hot tub tucked into a corner. A garage with one parking spot is attached.

Taxes: $17,484 (estimated)
