Some people weren’t happy when LeBron James’ “second decision” turned out to be an ad for Hennessy.
Now, he’s suing him.
According to TMZ Sports, 29-year-old Andrew Garcia is taking King James to small claims court. He filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles County on Wednesday and said the 40-year-old owes him $856.66. He’s claiming “fraud, deception, misrepresentation, and any and all basis of legal recovery.”
Garcia told the outlet that he assumed James was going to announce his retirement. So he purchased two tickets, at $432.83 a piece, to attend what he thought would be the 21-time NBA All-Star’s final game against his former team, the Cleveland Cavaliers on March 31, 2026.
He said after James revealed he wasn’t retiring, the “tickets lost almost all of their value.”
“I wouldn’t have purchased it if he wasn’t going to retire. Plain and simple,” Garcia told the outlet.
On Monday, the four-time NBA champion teased that a “second decision” was coming the next day and that it would be “the decision of all decisions.”
The short social media video sent the internet ablaze, with fans worried James would be heading for retirement. Others thought it could’ve been a promotion for Amazon or Taco Bell, two brands he’s worked with previously.
On Tuesday morning, the doubters were correct.
James’s “decision” was a continued partnership with Hennessy.
The collaboration is being called Hennessy V.S.O.P Limited Edition by LeBron James.
The Cleveland native isn’t planning on hanging up his sneakers just yet.
The three-time Olympic gold medalist is entering his 23rd season in the NBA during its 2025-2026 season.
