Police arrested a Los Angeles man in connection with a major theft investigation after more than $1.4 million in stolen train cargo was recovered, officials announced Thursday.
The Los Angeles Police Department identified the suspect as 41-year-old Alejandro Aguilar-Espinoza.
On Monday, Oct. 6, the LAPD said detectives served a search warrant in the 4300 block of Verona Street in East L.A.
Detectives conducted this operation in collaboration with the Union Pacific Railroad Police, L.A. Port Police, L.A. World Airport Police and the L.A. County District Attorney’s Office.
During the operation, LAPD said, detectives recovered an estimated $1,460,000 in stolen train cargo, including Nike shoes, Milwuakee tools and electronic equipment.
Officials added that officials were able to arrest Aguilar-Espinoza without incident. No further details about the investigation were immediately released.
“Detectives responded to his residences after receiving information indicating the presence of stolen cargo,” LAPD stated in a release.
Officers booked Aguilar-Espinoza at the LAPD Metropolitan Detention Center for receiving stolen property.
“This investigation underscores the importance of interagency collaboration in combating large-scale cargo theft and preserving the integrity of Southern California’s commercial supply chains,” LAPD stated.
The investigation remains ongoing, and police said additional arrests are expected.
