A Halloween version of Trader Joe’s viral mini totes has officially hit stores, the supermarket chain confirmed to KTLA.
The bags, which retail for $2.99 each, will be available in Halloween-themed colors, including black, orange, purple and a multicolored option.
“Each store makes its own merchandising decisions. If customers have any questions about product availability, they can ask any crew member at their neighborhood store. This is a limited-time release,” the chain said in an emailed statement to KTLA.
The $2.99 totes quickly became a viral sensation when they were released last year. Various videos posted to social media show customers quickly grabbing the bags as soon as they hit shelves. Some even compared the mini totes’ popularity to the Stanley cups, or “Quenchers,” as they are officially known.
The success of the mini totes surprised Trader Joe’s officials. During an episode of the “Insider Trader Joe’s” podcast, host Matt Sloan said that the supermarket originally had enough inventory to last a few weeks.
“We had actually hundreds of thousands of bags come in and go out within a week,” he said. “We had no inkling that they would be this exciting, this quickly, for so many customers.”
