Hurricane Priscilla, spinning off the coast of Mexico, will move north over the next couple of days, bringing a chance of showers and thunderstorms to Southern California on Thursday and Friday.

Conditions on Wednesday are expected to remain partly cloudy with below-average temperatures. “We’re talking about temperatures today that are going to be very comfortable,” KTLA Meteorologist Henry DiCarlo said.

Forecasters are calling for changes beginning Thursday, however, as moisture from Hurricane Priscilla moves into Southern California.

“We’ve been talking about Priscilla, still a Category 2 moving up the coast. As it gets closer to Thursday and Friday, that’s when we start driving in some moisture,” Henry said. “We’re not taking a direct hit, but we do get some of those outlying clouds and some water vapor that pushes through and includes the chance of some thunderstorms.”

The National Weather Service (NWS) predicts a 20% chance of showers reaching Los Angeles County, with a thunderstorm possible in the southern and eastern areas.

Chances for showers and thunderstorms increase to between 35% and 45% for the Riverside County mountains and deserts by Friday, according to the NWS.

Weather officials urged residents to know their risk: “If you live in a flood-prone area, be prepared for localized flooding in heavier rain/thunderstorms,” the NWS said.

As for the weekend, we are expecting cool but dry conditions. “The weekend looks absolutely fantastic,” Henry said.
