Banijay Nordic has appointed Netflix exec Georgie Mathew to the role of CEO at Stockholm-based pan-Scandinavian production company Filmlance.

He will take up his post in January 2026, arriving from Netflix Nordic where he was instrumental in shaping its original series slate in the region.

Titles under his watch included Swedish titles such as the comedy drama Barracuda Queens and Nordic noir Deliver Me; Norwegian disaster mini-series La Palma; and Danish hypnotic supernatural-thriller Copenhagen Cowboy.

Prior to Netflix, he held senior positions at Banijay Nordic’s YellowBird, contributing to a line-up of acclaimed Swedish dramas like Snow Angels and Bäckström.

Mathew’s arrival at the company follows Hanne Palmquist’s decision to step down from her role as CEO, having successfully led Filmlance through a period of creative and international growth. She will remain in post until the end of the year to manage a smooth transition.

One of Sweden’s most respected production companies, Filmlance slate includes long-running successes like Beck and The Sandhamn Murders, and genre-defining titles Bron/ The Bridge and Ronja the Robbers Daughter, with more recent titles including the drama Fallen.

It recently moved into comedy with Popular Problems, but continues to maintain its reputation in the premium crime space with titles like My Brother.

“Filmlance has a long tradition of powerful Nordic storytelling, and I’m thrilled to be part of continuing that legacy. I’ve always valued the creative process and the relationships that shape great drama,” said Mathew.

“During my years commissioning at Netflix, I had the privilege of working with some of the best creatives across the region and saw firsthand how vital it is for stories to remain authentic and rooted in their local culture. I’m looking forward to building on these learnings with the team at Filmlance and Banijay, and to bringing to life stories that connect deeply and powerfully with audiences.”

Jacob Houlind, CEO of Banijay Nordic said Mathew’s experience in the premium scripted space, extensive client relationships spanning the likes of SVT and TV4, and an intricate understanding of the streamer environment, made him a powerful asset for the business.

“With him at the helm, Filmlance is well-equipped to keep delivering ambitious titles to the world, building on the achievements of Hanne. I extend my heartfelt thanks to her for the creative influence and hard work that has inspired the business we see today – a driving force in the region’s drama landscape,” said Houlind.

Filmlance is part of Banijay Entertainment, gathering more than 60 labels, producing more than 110 titles annually, with recent productions including House of Guinness, Half Man, The Law According to Lidea Poet, Motor Valley, Montmartre, Carême, The Gardener and the Culpa trilogy.

In the Nordics, Banijay Entertainment labels include YellowBird/ Jarowskij, Rubicon and Banijay Finland, which are behind titles like Wallander, Diary of a Ditched Girl, Billionaire’s Island, Still Breathing, Supporting Actor and Murder in Hanko.
