MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WHNT) — Montgomery leaders said Tuesday they have new leads in the investigation of a shooting that happened over the weekend. That shooting claimed the lives of two people and injured 12 others.

Leaders reaffirmed their commitment to public safety in the capital city.

“All of us are coming for you,” said Montgomery Police Chief James Graboys. “We will not rest. We will not relent until we get you.”

Graboys said there have been no additional fatalities among those with life-threatening injuries. He explained the city is working with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, FBI and ATF.

“This is an investigation where we do anticipate multiple individuals who are persons of interest more than likely will be facing charges,” Graboys said.

Montgomery Mayor Steven Reed said he has been in contact with the governor’s office.

“For me, it’s personal to get to the bottom of this,” Reed said. “For me, it’s personal and to make sure our city–my hometown, our hometown–is considered one of the safest.”

Cornelius “CC” Calhoun, the Montgomery City Council president, said instating a curfew for unaccompanied minors 17 and under would make the city safer.

“Because we know the nature. It’s a lot of young people out doing a lot of these crimes that are going on in this city,” Calhoun said. “So we’re looking at it, and you want to hold parents accountable, too. That’s a part of the problem. Accountability for your household.”

In a statement, the ALEA said it will continue to coordinate closely with Montgomery’s city and county law enforcement leadership to align efforts, enhance response capabilities and ensure a strong, united front against criminal activity.
