PHOENIX – With the remnants of Hurricane Priscilla expected to reach metro Phoenix in a few days, Mother Nature might rain on your weekend plans.

While wet weather is usually welcome in the Valley, it could be bad timing in this case because so many popular outdoor events are on tap. The weekend lineup includes the Arizona State Fair, Four Peaks Brewing Oktoberfest, Original Phoenix Greek Festival, FoodieLand and various haunted houses and fall festivals.

“The next couple of days will remain pretty dry, with our temperatures slowly increasing,” Ryan Worley of the National Weather Service (NWS) in Phoenix told KTAR News 92.3 FM on Tuesday morning. “We might even hit the triple digits by Wednesday.”

How is Hurricane Priscilla expected to impact Phoenix area?

But the pattern will shift if the tropical storm system currently known as Hurricane Priscilla follows projections and moves up through Baja California and into Arizona.

In fact, Worley said the Valley could see prolonged periods of rainfall from Thursday into early next week.

The rainfall is expected to be less intense than when heavy downpours caused deadly flash flooding less than two weeks ago. But the eventual totals could be similar to when 1.85 inches fell Sept. 26-27 at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, which the NWS uses for the city’s official readings.

“Some areas could see anywhere from an inch to 2 inches, with areas east of Phoenix potentially favoring some higher amounts, even upwards of 2, 2.5 inches of rain,” Worley said.

KTAR News 92.3 FM’s Colton Krolak contributed to this report.
