EXCLUSIVE: Sam Jaeger (The Handmaid’s Tale, The Devil in Ohio) has joined the recurring cast of Apple TV+‘s Bad Monkey, sources tell Deadline. The series hails from executive producer Bill Lawrence and is led by Vince Vaughn, who also exec produces.
Based on Carl Hiaasen’s New York Times bestselling novel of the same name, Season 1 of Bad Monkey follows Andrew Yancy (Vaughn), who has been bounced from the Miami Police Department and is now a health inspector in the Keys. But after stumbling upon a case that begins with a human arm fished up by tourists, he realizes that if he can prove murder, he’ll be back in. He just needs to get past a trove of Floridian oddballs and one bad monkey.
Season 2 will be based on a new original story. In addition to Vaughn, Ortiz will reprise his Season 1 role of Rogelio, a police detective and Yancy’s best friend, as a series regular. Previously announced lead cast also includes John Malkovich as Spencer, the head of a major South Florida criminal organization, as well as Yvonne Strahovski, Jaeger’s former co-star on the Hulu hit series The Handmaid’s Tale.
In addition to The Handmaid’s Tale, Jaeger also recently starred opposite Emily Deschanel in Netflix’s limited series The Devil in Ohio. He is well known for his role as Joel Graham in the NBC series Parenthood. He also played lead roles in the NBC series Law & Order True Crime: The Menendez Brothers, the ABC miniseries When We Rise, Tell Me a Story for CBS All-Access, Marc Cherry’s Why Women Kill, and Ryan Murphy/Brad Falchuk’s The Politician opposite Gwyneth Paltrow.
His film credits include Blumhouse’s The Wolf Man, Steven Soderbergh’s Traffic, Clint Eastwood’s American Sniper, Paul Thomas Anderson’s Inherent Vice, and opposite Jessica Chastain and Andrew Garfield in The Eyes of Tammy Faye. He is repped by Greene Talent, Entertainment 360 and attorney John Meigs.
