Days after the death of a 1-year-old boy who was found unresponsive at his home in Brooklyn, police investigators have said the death was a homicide.

Officers arrived around 5 p.m. on Friday at the Bridge Rockaway Apartments in the Brownsville neighborhood in eastern Brooklyn, where they found the boy, Anthony Casey. He was taken to Brookdale Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, the authorities said.

The police issued the homicide ruling on Monday after New York City’s chief medical examiner found that the boy had died because of blows to his torso. No arrests have been made.

Last month, a 1-year-old girl from the Bronx died from head injuries after spending a week on life support. The police charged her mother’s boyfriend, Jerome Thomas, with assaulting her, saying he had struck the girl, Imani Mitchell, in the head multiple times.

Mr. Thomas will face charges, including second-degree murder, at his arraignment in Bronx Supreme Court on Tuesday, according to the district attorney’s office.

Taylor Robinson is a Times reporter covering the New York City metro area.
