Investigators with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department are asking for the public’s help in locating a 31-year-old man wanted for murder, officials announced Monday.

In a news release, officials said at around 9:30 p.m. on May 12 deputies responded to 150th Street East and East Avenue R in Sun Village, an unincorporated area of L.A. County in the Antelope Valley.

At the scene, deputies found one of the shooting victims, Oscar Medina-Partida, lying unresponsive on the ground in a dirt lot.

A female victim who was also shot was able to walk to a nearby fire station and report the incident. Personnel with the L.A. County Fire Department treated her and rushed her to the hospital, while also responding to the location where she said the shooting occurred.

Medical personnel declared Medina-Partida dead at the scene.

Investigators say the suspected gunman, Andres Mateos, had been having an argument with the victims when he armed himself with a rifle, shot both and fled the area in an unknown direction.

Authorities did not elaborate on the nature of the argument.

Mateos has since been charged with murder by the L.A. County District Attorney’s Office, and a $4 million warrant was issued for his arrest.

“Detectives have exhausted all leads and are seeking the public’s assistance in locating Suspect Mateos,” LASD officials said. Suspect Mateos is considered to be armed and dangerous and his whereabouts are unknown at this time.”

While the case remains active, authorities said they are withholding further details in order to protect the integrity of the investigation.

Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department at 323-890-5500. Those wishing to remain anonymous can call the L.A. Regional Crime Stoppers Hotline at 800-222-8477 or leave tips online at www.lacrimestoppers.org.
