HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — Huntsville Utilities opened its new Systems Operations Center, a $25,000-square-foot facility designed to improve monitoring and response across the utility’s electric, water and natural gas systems.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held today at the new center, located at 1145 Jordan Road.
HU said that the center features advanced technology that allows operators to track the status of all three utilities in real time and dispatch crews quickly to handle outages or repairs. The building was also engineered to withstand extreme weather, including strong tornadoes, and includes redundant systems to ensure continuous operation during emergencies.
Construction began in December 2024 and wrapped up in September 2025.
“This facility represents a major step forward in ensuring reliable service for our customers, no matter the conditions,” Huntsville Utilities management said in a statement announcing the opening.
Huntsville Utilities, a not-for-profit public utility owned by the City of Huntsville, serves about 233,000 electric, 110,000 water and 65,000 natural gas customers across Huntsville and Madison County.
