A woman died after losing control of her motorcycle, crashing and being struck by multiple vehicles on the 101 Freeway.

According to a California Highway Patrol media release, the crash occurred just before 7:40 p.m. Saturday on the northbound span of the 101 Freeway north of the State Route 126 interchange in Ventura.

“The Ventura Communication Center received multiple reports of a traffic crash involving a motorcycle that had gone down and was subsequently struck by multiple vehicles,” the CHP release states.

The initial investigation into the incident revealed that the motorcyclist, riding a black Yamaha, was traveling north when she lost control and crashed. Due to the force of the crash, she was ejected and came to rest in the northbound lanes.

“Immediately” after crashing, the young woman’s motorcycle was ran over by a Chevy Silverado driven by a 40-year-old Santa Barbara resident, CHP said. Following the collision between the Silverado and the motorcycle, a silver Nissan Sentra also crashed into the motorcycle debris while also striking the motorcyclist.

“The rider sustained major injuries and was transported to Ventura County Medical Center, where she later succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased,” authorities confirmed.

As of publication, it is not known what caused the motorcyclist to lose control. Her name was not released; CHP only identified her as a 20-year-old woman from Camarillo.

Part of the northbound 101 Freeway north of State Route 126 was closed for approximately an hour so authorities could clear the scene and conduct a preliminary investigation.

Any witnesses to the crash or others with information on the incident should contact CHP’s Ventura Area Office: 805-662-2640.
