A 17-year-old was identified as the suspect in a string of crimes in Simi Valley, police say.
Simi Valley Police Department officers responded to a vandalism radio call on Fallon Circle around 10:25 p.m. Saturday.
“A witness reported a male suspect smashing the window of a parked vehicle,” SVPD said in a statement issued Sunday morning. “A description of the subject was provided to responding officers, but a search of the area did not result in locating the suspect.”
He was, however, located a short time later after officers were dispatched to a crash in the 1900 block of Morley Street – just over two miles away, according to SVPD, and a juvenile who matched the description of the suspect in the vandalism call was detained at Abraham and Malcolm streets.
Further investigation revealed that the vehicle involved in the crash, a Kia Soul with a “punched ignition,” was a recently stolen vehicle that had yet to be reported. Additionally, the unnamed teen was also found to be in possession of property taken from a separate vehicle theft on Valjean Avenue.
When that theft occurred was not disclosed.
Per SVPD, the teen was charged with vehicle theft, petty theft and vandalism. He was cited and released to his mother.
