A three-vehicle crash killed an Oxnard man and left at least one other man with major injuries on the Pacific Coast Highway over the weekend, officials say.

It happened on Friday night, according to the California Highway Patrol’s Ventura Area Office, on PCH south of Point Magu.

CHP said calls came in around 10:08 p.m. reporting a traffic crash with multiple cars blocking highway lanes. First responders arrived to find an unresponsive 29-year-old man lying on the ground.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the 29-year-old, an Oxnard resident, was behind the wheel of a Hyundai Elantra heading northbound on the PCH when, for unknown reasons, he crossed over the double yellow lines and into oncoming traffic.

Once driving north in the southbound lanes, the man crashed head-on into an Acura TSX while not wearing a seatbelt. Soon after this crash, a 38-year-old woman driving a Chevrolet Tahoe northbound crashed into the Acura.

Paramedics pronounced the 29-year-old man dead at the scene, CHP said. His name was not immediately released.

The Acura driver, only identified as a 23-year-old man, suffered major injuries as a result. An ambulance transported him to the Ventura County Medical Center, and his condition was not included in CHP’s initial report.

Officials said the woman did not sustain injuries.

“No arrests were made, and the involvement of alcohol/drugs does not appear to be a factor in this crash,” CHP stated.

Authorities closed the highway for about two hours to facilitate the investigation and reopened all lanes around 12:40 a.m.

The CHP Ventura Area office is continuing to investigate the crash and encourages any potential witnesses who have not already given their statements to an investigating officer or have potential dash camera footage to contact its office at 805-662-2640.
