Families of hostages call for immediate end to war

The main Israeli group representing the families of said on Saturday that the war must end immediately for the sake of the hostages’ safety.

“President Trump’s demand to stop the war immediately is essential to prevent serious and irreversible harm to the hostages,” the Hostages and Missing Families Forum said in a statement.

“We call on Prime Minister to immediately begin efficient and swift negotiations to bring all our hostages home,” it added.

Israeli military issues another warning to Gaza City residents

The Israeli military’s Arabic spokesperson said on Saturday that Gaza City remained a “dangerous” combat zone despite some reports that the Israeli army was reducing operations there.

“The IDF (Israeli military) troops are still operating in Gaza City, and returning to it is extremely dangerous. For your safety, avoid returning north or approaching areas of IDF troop activity anywhere — including in the southern Gaza Strip,” Colonel Avichay Adraee wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

The US news outlet Axios earlier reported that the Israeli military would shift to defensive operations in Gaza and put its plan to seize Gaza City on hold.

Reported attacks by Israel continue despite Trump’s call for bombing to end

Gaza officials say Israel has carried out dozens of attacks on Gaza City and other areas of the Palestinian territory despite after Hamas accepted some terms of a US peace plan.

“It was a very violent night, during which the (Israeli army) carried out dozens of airstrikes and artillery shelling on Gaza City and other areas in the Strip, despite President Trump’s call to halt the bombing,” civil defense spokesman Mahmud Bassal told AFP news agency.

Four people in a house in Gaza City died in one strike, while two others were killed in Khan Younis in the south, medical workers and local authorities said.

Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform on Friday that he believed Hamas had shown it was “ready for a lasting PEACE” and that “Israel must immediately stop the bombing of Gaza, so that we can get the Hostages out safely and quickly!”

Hamas said on Friday it was ready under the Trump plan to release hostages it has held in Gaza since the October 7, 2023, terror attacks it led in southern Israel.

However, the militant Islamist group called for negotiation on the details of the plan and a say in the future of the Palestinian territory.

The Israeli military chief of staff has instructed forces in a statement to prepare for the implementation of the first phase of Trump’s plan but failed to mention whether there would be reduction of military activity in Gaza.
