Arthur Jones, who was a defensive tackle for the Baltimore Ravens, including in their Super Bowl win in 2013, has died. He was 39.

Another team he played for, the Indianapolis Colts, confirmed his death in a statement on Friday. The team did not say how, when or where he died.

Mr. Jones played for the Ravens from 2010 to 2013 and was a “key part” of the team that won the Super Bowl in the 2012 season, the Ravens said in a statement on Friday. He tackled Colin Kaepernick and had a fumble recovery during the Super Bowl, the Ravens said.

Eric DeCosta, the team’s general manager, said in the statement that Mr. Jones had a “big, bright smile, infectious energy and eternal positivity.”

After leaving the Ravens, Mr. Jones played three years for the Indianapolis Colts and one season with the Washington Commanders, the Ravens said.

With the Colts, he missed a year because of an ankle injury and was suspended for the first four games of the 2016 season for violating the league’s policy on performance-enhancing drugs, according to the N.F.L. In 2018, he retired from the league after playing for seven years.

Mr. Jones was born in Rochester, N.Y., on June 3, 1986, according to his ESPN profile. He grew up in Endicott, N.Y., near Binghamton. His father, Arthur Jones, was a pastor. His mother, Camille Jones, died in 2017, and a sister, Carmen Jones, died in 2002.

A complete list of survivors was not immediately available.

Mr. Jones had a son, Arthur Jones IV, and two brothers, Jon Jones, a mixed martial arts fighter, and Chandler Jones, who also played in the N.F.L. and won a Super Bowl with the New England Patriots, according to the Ravens statement.

Before being drafted into the N.F.L., Mr. Jones played football for Syracuse University, where his brother Chandler also played.

Mr. Jones graduated from Syracuse University in 2009 with a degree in communication and rhetorical studies, according to the university.
