PHOENIX — Arizonans looking to add a furry friend to their family might have the perfect opportunity to do so, as three Valley shelters are offering free adoption deals on pets in the month of October.

The Arizona Humane Society (AHS), Arizona Animal Welfare League (AAWL) and Maricopa County Animal Care & Control are the shelters offering the adoption specials.

The Maricopa County Animal Care & Control’s free adoptions are already being offered and run through Oct. 15.

Meanwhile, the Arizona Humane Society’s starts Oct. 3 going until Oct. 5 and the Arizona Animal Welfare League’s is offered for one day on Oct. 4.

What are the specifics on the Valley shelters’ free adoption deals?

Maricopa County is waving adoption fees on all dogs that are six months and older, and puppies will have a reduced fee of $150. The deal is sponsored by the BISSELL Pet Foundation.

  • 70 dogs rescued from deplorable conditions during West Valley puppy mill investigation
  • Valley dog who was impaled on fence now looking for 'furever' home
  • AHS 1st animal welfare organization in US to offer telehealth services for owned pets

The county locations that will be offering the special include:

  • The East Shelter, located at 1920 S. Lewis in Mesa
  • The West Shelter, located at 2500 S. 27th Avenue in Phoenix
  • Everyday Adoption Center insider PetSmart, located at 4380 N. Miller Road in Scottsdale

The Arizona Animal Welfare League’s adoption deal is also part of BISSELL Pet Foundation’s “Empty the Shelters” event.

The special makes adoption fees for all pets free, including kittens and puppies. It will be offered at AAWL’s Main Shelter in Phoenix as well as its Chandler Adoption Center.

Meanwhile, the Arizona Humane Society has a goal of getting 400 pets new homes during its adoption special, which is part of the 17th annual MARS Global Adoption Weekend.

AHS is offering the deal for all pets and noted that during previous adoption specials it’s had 200 pets adopted in one day.

“With more than 1,400 pets in its care, the Arizona Humane Society is grateful to MARS for covering the fees of pets adopted this weekend as the organizations work together to end pet homelessness and champion a more pet-friendly society,” AHS said in a press release.

The adoption deal will be offered at all three of AHS’ locations.
