MARSHALL COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) — The Marshall County Sheriff’s Office says a man was arrested in DeKalb County on Wednesday for vehicle theft charges in multiple jurisdictions in North Alabama and Tennessee.

MCSO said Johnathan “John Boy” Rodman was arrested Oct. 1 after being found asleep in a car in DeKalb County after multiple incidents involving vehicle thefts and someone breaking into vehicles. The sheriff’s office said Rodman is currently charged with first-degree theft and unlawful breaking and entering a vehicle in Marshall County and is facing charges in multiple other jurisdictions.

The sheriff’s office said everything started in the early morning hours of Sept. 29 when deputies responded to a residence on Breedwell Road to reports of a stolen vehicle. According to authorities, the victims said they had been woken up at 3 a.m. to the sound of their truck starting up, only to see it pulling out of their driveway when they checked their outdoor cameras.

At around 6:30 a.m. that same day, MCSO said deputies responded to a home on Pea Ridge Road where a homeowner had gone outside to find their car open and seemingly rummaged through. A deputy and the homeowner reviewed the home’s surveillance camera and saw a man with a face covering walking around the property, according to authorities.

MCSO said again that same morning, another property owner in the area found the same man walking around their property, though nothing appeared to be disturbed.

The sheriff’s office said investigators were eventually able to identify the man as Rodman, who was also a suspect in theft cases being worked by the Scottsboro Police Department and Guntersville Police Department. Authorities said Rodman is also known to law enforcement agencies throughout the county.

Authorities said they approached Rodman’s home, but he fled on foot and was not located during a subsequent search.

During the investigation, MCSO said it was also discovered that Rodman was suspected of a dump truck theft in Marion County, Tennessee. On Sept. 30, MCSO said deputies located that dump truck in a field on High Falls Road in Poplar Springs.

On Oct 1, MCSO said it received a tip about the stolen pickup truck, and it was located off Pea Ridge Road. The sheriff’s office said Rodman was located passed out in a vehicle in DeKalb County later that afternoon.

MCSO said Rodman is currently being held in DeKalb County on charges there, and once he is released, he will be returned to Marshall County.

“Numerous agencies worked together to locate and apprehend Rodman,” the sheriff’s office said. “We would like to thank the Marshall County Drug Enforcement Unit, Albertville Police Department, Guntersville Police Department, Scottsboro Police Department, the Marshall County and Jackson County District Attorney’s Offices, Dekalb County Sheriff’s Office, the Tennessee Highway Patrol, and the Marion County, Tennessee Sheriff’s Office.”
