COLBERT COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) — Colbert County School System is hosting a social media seminar for parents who have students in the district.

Superintendent Nathan Fuller told News 19 that administrators constantly deal with issues that all start with social media, but most of the time, parents are unaware of what their child is looking at or posting.

“We deal with so much in the schools, that starts with an issue from social media, and some of the things kids are seeing and the trends they’re seeing and things they are getting into,” Fuller said. “A lot of times, their parents are just not aware of what they are seeing and what the potential dangers are that they can get into through social media.”

Patrick Caver, who is an attorney from Morgan County, will be talking with parents and families about everything they need to know regarding social media and phones.

Fuller said the seminar will go over different categories of social media. He says it’s important that parents are informed, so they know how to monitor their child’s social media and phone use.

“Patrick Caver knows everything from how to get into a phone to the ins and outs of social media platforms and more, so it will be a great meeting for parents to sort of learn about social media, because some parents just truly do not know what goes on on their child’s screen,” Fuller said.

The first seminar will be on Thursday, October 2, at Colbert Heights High School, starting at 5 p.m.

The seminars will also be held at Hatton, Colbert County and Cherokee High Schools to make sure parents from all over the district are able to make it.
