Scottsdale Fire Department to host open house to showcase new fire station

PHOENIX — A new fire station in Scottsdale is open, serving the northern portion of the city.

It began operations on Sept. 22 and is located near the corner of Hayden Road and Mayo Boulevard.

The Scottsdale Fire Department now operates 16 fire stations, serving its more than 245,000 residents.

“Fire Station 612 represents Scottsdale’s commitment to safety and honoring those who serve,” Scottsdale Fire Chief Tom Shannon said in a release. “This facility ensures we can meet the needs of a growing community while providing out firefighters with the resources they need to do their jobs safely and effectively.”

The station will be showcased in an open house on Oct. 3 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Facts about the new fire station

The 12,000 square-foot facility is expected to serve more than 2,000 calls to the northern area of the city per year.

It has four apparatus bays, sleeping quarters for 12 firefighters, a full kitchen and dining area, an OSHA-compliant decontamination area, physical fitness area, locker rooms, bathrooms, office space, laundry facilities and a back-up generator.

According to the release, the building was funded as part of the 2019 Bond Election.

It was a $13.7 million project and features artwork from Maria Salenger of Jones Studio in Tempe.
