After more than two months on the run following a deadly shooting in Needles, California, authorities have arrested 20-year-old Xavier Scott in Big River, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department announced.
Scott faces murder and multiple felony charges in connection with a July 23 shooting that left one man dead and three others wounded.
Shortly before 6:40 a.m. that day, deputies from the Needles Station responded to the 1900 block of Erin Drive after reports of gunfire. They found four victims suffering from gunshot wounds.
William Garhartt, 52, was pronounced dead at the scene by San Bernardino County Fire Department personnel. A 23-year-old man and two women, ages 21 and 22, were transported to local hospitals for treatment, authorities said.
Detectives from the Sheriff’s Specialized Investigations Division–Homicide Detail identified Scott, a Needles resident, as the suspect. He fled after the shooting and remained at large until Sept. 25, when he was arrested in Big River and booked at the High Desert Detention Center. His bail was set at $6 million.
