UAE foreign minister calls for end to Gaza war in meeting with Netanyahu
Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan met with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly, where he urged an end to the .
The meeting was the first time Netanyahu met with a senior Arab official since as it targeted Hamas leaders.
Sheikh Abdullah reiterated the UAE’s “unwavering commitment to supporting all initiatives aimed at achieving a comprehensive peace based on the two-state solution, in a way that fulfills the aspirations of both the Palestinian and Israeli peoples,” the UAE’s state news agency WAM reported.
A number of Western nations, including France, the United Kingdom, Canada and Australia recognized a Palestinian state ahead of the UN General Assembly debate, in the hopes of pushing forward a two-state solution as Israel continues to expand its offensive in .
The decision has prompted a furious response from Israel, with Netanyahu using his UNGA speech to stress that Israel would not allow Palestinian statehood, saying it would be akin to committing “national suicide.”

Iran summon envoy to Germany, France and UK with sanctions imminent
has recalled its ambassadors to , and the according to state media, as it braces for sanctions over the country’s nuclear program.
Iran’s state-run IRNA news agency said the ambassadors were being summoned for consultations.
France, Germany and the UK triggered the so-called “snapback” sanctions in late August in a 30-day process after they assessed that Iran was not meeting its commitments under the 2015 nuclear agreement.
Last-ditch talks between the three European countries and Tehran have failed to provide a breakthrough.
On Friday, the UN Security Council did not pass a resolution to delay the sanctions, pushed for by China and Russia. Only four countries supported the resolution.
“This council does not have the necessary assurance that there is a clear path to a swift diplomatic solution,” Britain’s envoy to the United Nations, Barbara Wood, said after the vote, adding that UN sanctions would be “reimposed this weekend,”
The sanctions are set to come back into force from 00:00 GMT (02:00 CEST) on Sunday, while European sanctions would return next week.
