A crash Thursday evening involving a motorcycle officer with the Santa Monica Police Department backed traffic up for miles on the northbound 405 Freeway.
Details are limited and it’s unclear exactly how the multi-vehicle crash occurred, but as Sky5 arrived at the scene, located on the 405 Freeway at Roscoe Boulevard, just after 8 p.m., officers with the Los Angeles Police Department could be seen surrounding the officer who was laying on the roadway in the carpool lane.
Aerial footage showed the officer alert, conscious and breathing, even moving his arms as medical personnel with the L.A. city fire department made their way through the bumper-to-bumper back up to get to the crash site.
Traffic on the southbound side of the freeway had also significantly slowed as vehicles passed the scene.
Authorities with the California Highway Patrol closed northbound lanes as the SMPD officer was being evaluated and treated before ultimately being taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital with minor injuries.
There were no reports of other motorists suffering injuries.
It was clear how long northbound lanes of the freeway would remain closed, while authorities investigated the crash and crews cleaned up the scene.
