Germany-based Atlas International Film has acquired international sales rights for Hong Kong action movie Drunken Blade, written and directed by Chinese action star Li Bingyuan.

Li also stars in the film, described as a Hong Kong action film with its roots in wuxia and kungfu martial arts, with rising actress Sun Yiran, real-life MMA fighter Yao Honggang and Wu Long. Li is known for his role in The Legend Of Bruce Lee series.

Scheduled for a wide theatrical release in China on October 18, the film is produced by Ying Film Entertainment in association with Beijing Zhenwumen Film, with producers Willie Ying and Man Wu.

The story follows the world’s fastest swordsman, known as ‘Drunken Blade’, who plans to retire after one last mission – to repay the woman who saved his life when he was younger by taking on the gang that is terrorising her village.

“We are very excited to present Drunken Blade to our international distributors,” said Atlas International Managing Director Michel J. Vandewalle. “This movie is packed with action and it comes from a production house with a proven track record. The collaboration between Willie Ying, a stunt performer from Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon 2, and Li Bingyuan, who was Jet Li’s stunt double in Flying Swords Of Dragon Gate, brings the golden age of Hong Kong martial arts films back to the big screen. For fans of the genre, this is a must-see.”

Producer Willie Ying added: “We are thrilled to announce the release of Drunken Blade in theatres across China. It’s a period action film with a message that resonates in today’s world – something we don’t see much coming out of China these days.

“We’ve worked hard to push boundaries and elevate the film to international standards. This is just the beginning of our journey to bring more films to the global market. I believe there’s still strong demand for high-quality Asian action films with compelling storylines.”
